Staff at multiple units surrounding a recording studio where a double shooting occurred are shocked such a horrible act could happen so close to their workplaces.

The incident, which left one man dead and another in life-threatening condition, occurred at Unit 14 at 400 Creditstone Rd., just north of Hwy. 7 at 3:50 a.m. May 24.

A 39-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene with gunshot wounds to the head and a second man, age 27, was taken to hospital.

A large number of people were seen fleeing the scene and there is no suspect information, according to York Regional Police.

At 10 a.m., the building was abuzz with police activity, with homicide detectives investigating the scene, which featured five yellow police bullet casing markers, one of which was at the front door of the unit, before they trailed off towards the rear of the building, with the last one sitting multiple meters away from the front door of the studio.

Three men who owned units at the location stood around talking about the incident that forced them out of their workplaces. They said police informed them they couldn't enter their buildings.

A co-worker drove by at one point, informing the men that he'd been told a man was actually living in the unit where the shooting occurred.

"I'm going home; they're not going to let us in today," he said before driving away.

"Sure, we're shocked," another man, who declined to give his name, said. "It's a big surprise. I run my business right there and I can't get in."

The building opened in 1986 and he said he's never seen this sort of police activity in the area.

A large group of people will have witnessed the incident, but none have come forward to police, YRP Sgt. Clint Whitney said, adding investigators are pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

Media reports have suggested there were often parties at the location at nights and on the weekend and that revellers would often leave garbage around the site.
