Newmarket's first Night Market combines an art show and sale, food, drink and live music

Here’s a new event to enjoy Newmarket’s thriving art scene.

The Newmarket Group of Artists and the town are partnering to present the first-ever Night Market, a new outdoor event May 26 that combines an art show and sale, food, drink and live music.

Enjoy an evening downtown and discover in a fun way art that speaks to you while celebrating with Newmarket’s artists.

"The Newmarket Group of Artists (NGA) is very excited about Night Market, a downtown art party that will connect local artists with the community,” said Jason Wighton, an NGA Night Market committee member, said.

“As an artist and volunteer-led non-profit with nearly 100 members --- and growing --- the NGA is always looking for new, and innovative ways to share our artwork. We are grateful for our partnership with the town of Newmarket, who helped us create Night Market, our first major spring art show and sale, as well as our first evening event. We had such an enthusiastic response to our call for artists, so we've already started thinking about how to grow the event next year.”

About 20 NGA artists will be participating with booths for the show and sale, with a mix of art mediums, including photography, painting, pottery and more.

“We’re committed to supporting Newmarket’s thriving arts community and making art more accessible to everyone in our community. The town is proud of the amazing work that the Newmarket Group of Artists is doing and I’m excited to see this new partnership event come to life. This event is a great opportunity for people who are curious about art to come check it out in a relaxed atmosphere at Riverwalk.”

The event runs May 26 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons at 200 Doug Duncan Dr.

Admission is free.

Night Market is one of a number of spring and summer events and festivals the town is holding this year.

That includes Touch a Truck, Wreckroom Elvis, York Region Pride Fest, Busk Till Dusk, Tim Hortons Canada Day, the TD Newmarket Music Series, Moonlight Movies presented by TD and Splash of Culture.
