Grade 5 Vaughan student gets to be York Regional Police chief for a day

A fifth-grade student from Vaughan was selected as the winner of the Chief of Police for a Day contest.

10-year-old Tyler Yanofsky, a Grade 5 student from Herbert H. Carnegie Public School in Maple is the winner among those who competed in York region.

He delivered his winning essay on the theme of how to make a difference in York Region on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 before a panel of judges.

The YRP posted a tweet showing Yanofsky’s time as “chief of police” on April 28.

It’s been a busy morning for our Chief for a Day, 10-year-old Tyler. He won the role as Chief after presenting his winning essay to a judging panel in March. He will present his essay at our Police Appreciation Night on May 11. Chief McSween take the rest of the day off!
