Ongoing construction on Lorne Avenue is coming with another intersection closure.

Lorne and Millard Avenue will be closed beginning May 15 at 7 a.m., through to May 22.

The closure is part of the Lorne Avenue Traffic-Calming Demonstration project, incorporating various techniques to lower traffic speeds, according to the town’s website.

The project involves road narrowing, speed mitigation measures, automated speed and volume measurement devices, bike lanes and street furniture to provide a “complete street” design and New Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks and associated road features.

The water main and sanitary sewers are being replaced.

The project also includes replacement of storm sewers and catch basins, with implementation of some low impact development (LID) features to help adapt to a changing climate.

Construction started in August 2021, and the majority of the first phase, between Eagle and Timothy, was completed by December 2021.

The project is currently on schedule, with the majority of construction work, including underground sewers, curb, sidewalks and the first coat of asphalt throughout the project completed last year.

As of May 8, the third phase of the project began, which includes final restoration, including the topcoat of the asphalt.

A resident ambassadors’ group is meeting with the construction team on a biweekly basis.
