Memorial Park in Whitchurch-Stouffville just got an upgrade -- two new playgrounds were unveiled on May 3 by the town.
The playground upgrades include accessible pathways and partially ramped structures to allow for greater use for individuals with mobility challenges.
The new playgrounds were made possible through a $560,000 federal government grant.
“I am so pleased to see this investment come to life in two new and exciting spaces for our community to enjoy,” Markham-Stouffville MP Helena Jaczek said. “These new, accessible playgrounds are helping ensure that all children can experience the benefits of playing and community.”
Mayor Iain Lovatt said that the new playgrounds were highly anticipated by the community. “Council is thrilled to be able to offer these new playgrounds to our community,” Lovatt said. “We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play and explore. This playground is designed to create a safe and inclusive space where all children can have fun and build lifelong memories.”
The Memorial Park area is in the midst of undergoing several changes. Last year, pickleball and tennis courts were installed and opened. The town is also building an outdoor skating trail on the site.
