A non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by multiple sclerosis is inviting the public to several upcoming events in York Region.

My MS Family is entirely run by volunteers and offers support groups, information seminars, equipment grants and guidance to help members through barriers and obstacles.

The organization is hosting the following flag-raising events in York Region to raise awareness:

May 10 -- 11 a.m. at Vaughan City Hall

May 17 -- 3 p.m. at Richmond Hill City Hall

May 31 -- 11 a.m. at Markham City Hall

“This will be our 10th year holding these events to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis in York Region,” said Peter Busciglio. “We are here to help people in dealing with MS as well educating people on the effects of MS and in helping them with financial burdens that many of them will face.”

Flag-raising events last about an hour, and the MS flag will remain flying at the city hall for a day or two.

My MS Family is also organizing a car show on Aug. 5 at Bloomington GO Station in Richmond Hill from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last year, their MS Road to a Cure event won Charitable Show of the Year at the Automotive Industry Show Awards. The event raises fund to support people living with MS and will also fund rehabilitation programs at Sunnybrook Hospital’s MS clinic, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Abilities Centre Durham Region and the West Park Healthcare Centre.

“It will be a great day to come and see customized vehicles, listen to the DJ pumping out music, and enjoy food truck delicacies,” said Busciglio. “Rain or shine, we will be inside the GO station staying nice and dry if the weather is not co-operating.”

It costs $50 to register your custom vehicle for judging at the car show. General admission costs $10.
