You’re going to drive a little slower on Stouffville roads. York Region changed several of the speed limits on regional roads at the beginning of May.

Speed limits were reduced on McCowan Road between Major Mackenzie Drive and Stouffville Road to 70 kilometres per hour (km/h) from 80 km/h.

The speed limit was also reduced to 70 km/h from 80 km/h on Kennedy Road, and Warden Avenue between Major Mackenzie Drive and Stouffville Road.

The limit was also be reduced to 70 km/h from 80 km/h on Woodbine Avenue from south of 19th Avenue to Stouffville Road.

“As our communities continue to grow and more people are travelling, either walking, cycling, taking transit or driving, it is important we are adjusting speed limits appropriately to ensure everyone is safe,” said York Region chair and CEO Wayne Emmerson.

“Pedestrians and cyclists are vulnerable travellers, and as vehicle speed increases severe injury rates from collisions with pedestrians and vehicles rise dramatically.”
