The VMC library is expanding. On its one-year anniversary the library is already cultivating more space to keep readers happy.

On Tuesday, April 25, the VMC library launched its VMC Express self-service checkout station located on the first floor of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre across the YMCA gym.

It’s the first of its kind in Vaughan.

Customers can select from an assortment of new and popular books that are in pristine condition.

“The idea was to mimic an airport bookstore,” said Aleksandra Dowiat-Vine, deputy CEO growth & communications for Vaughan Public Libraries.

Currently, the VMC Express holds about 1,000 items and can comfortably have 15 people in at a time.

Customers are welcome to explore the space while the library is hosting events upstairs.

The room is adorned with funky colours, and sensor activated lights. And its hours of operation will run simultaneous with the regular library upstairs.

Should customers run into any issue, they can always venture upstairs through the walk-up staircase or take the escalator to the second floor where the main library is located.

While the library hosts mainly books, it does offer a selection of Blu-ray DVDs as well.

Books at the VMC Express can be on loan for 14 days.

Customers can return the books upstairs or put them in the drop-off slot outside.

The full library facility was opened to the public on April 25, 2022.
