A public meeting was held March 28 to review the draft Keswick Secondary Plan, as well as gather comments from the public and members of council. The plan lays out the details of how Keswick will grow and develop up until 2051.

“Keswick will become a more complete, healthy and vibrant community, balancing its existing lakeside character with new development that meets the community’s employment, shopping and entertainment needs, and that provides more rental and affordable housing to support a diverse population,” according to the plan's vision.

The plan continued: “As Keswick evolves, new development and investment will prioritize the creation of a stronger sense of community, a well-connected and multimodal transportation network, the protection of natural areas and a commitment to environmental sustainability and resiliency.”

The most significant change in the proposed plan is the mixed-use corridor two designation along Woodbine Avenue. It would provide a range of retail and office uses to support the growing population.

New policies would permit the introduction of a limited proportion of residential uses into the corridor through mid-rise (having a maximum height of six storeys) and highrise (having a maximum height of 12 storeys) buildings, providing a greater mixture of housing options in the community.

Council received the report and endorsed the next steps for the plan. This will return to council on or prior to June 7.
