To celebrate and recognize Earth Day, the City of Mississauga is hosting a series of online and in-person events and activities this month.
IN-PERSON EVENTS
The city is hosting a series of tree-planting events across its 11 wards on April 22.
Volunteers with the One Million Trees program will plant 1,500 trees at 11 sites across Mississauga.
In Ward 6, the event takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Willowvale Fields. The programs will happen from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in all other wards.
Registration for these tree planting events is required through Eventbrite.ca.
ONE MILLION TREES CELEBRATION
Mississauga is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its One Million Trees program on April 22.
A series of family-friendly activities will be hosted on that day. Attendees can meet local environmental organizations at these events as well.
SPRING INTO NATIVE PLANTS
The city is organizing an interactive workshop about native plants and how they attract birds and butterflies on April 24 at Burnhamthorpe Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Participants will get to take home a wildflower seed starter. The program is presented by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
WHAT IS FOR DINNER EXHIBITION LAUNCH
Mississauga is inviting residents to join the official reception of the latest Museums of Mississauga exhibition, What's for Dinner. The reception will take place at Bradley Museum, Anchorage Galleries from 4 to 8 p.m. on April 27.
The exhibit will be on display from April 27 to July 30 and explores how food invokes memories and nostalgia, fosters communities, and reflects the land and people it comes from.
ONLINE EVENTS
There are also two online events being hosted by the city -- Online Invasive Plants in Gardens on April 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. and Online Backyard Birds Through the Seasons on May 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
OTHER WAYS TO RECOGNIZE EARTH DAY
The city says residents can make a commitment to help clean up litter in their community by adopting a park.
Residents can join the city’s Natural Areas Stewardship Program and help manage invasive species in natural areas throughout the year.
Residents can also donate seeds for others to enjoy.
The city encourages residents to join thousands of volunteers across Canada who will volunteer to pick up litter around their community with friends, family, and co-workers.
