An open house event on April 26 will give the community an opportunity to learn about existing public art in town and see what's coming up, especially in the Mulock park project.
The event at Old Town Hall is hosted by the Town of Newmarket and Art + Public UnLtd., the consultant engaged by the town to create an art plan for the Mulock park.
The plan is to include seven pieces of artwork, with more to come in future years.
"Public art at Mulock park celebrates the landscape through a lens of innovation to highlight stories across past, present and future that expand our understanding of nature and our relationship to the land," the town said.
Members of the project team will be at the event and you can also see concept proposals for the upcoming project.
As well as the Mulock park art, the open house will explore existing art in Newmarket.
Some current examples are the trail markers on the Tom Taylor Trail, graffiti-style art on the exterior of the Recreation Youth Centre, and a sculpture called Eternal Peace near the municipal offices.
The town's public art plan includes a 10-year vision for adding more public art, with the goal of adding character and creating free, accessible opportunities for the community to enjoy art.
The open house is free to attend and snacks and refreshments will be provided. It runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 26.
