The City of Markham has planned a series of events this month to help celebrate Earth Month and encourage residents to take a stand to live a more sustainable lifestyle all year long.

Enter a photo contest, learn about Markham initiatives and how you can take action and join the city on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Markham Centre (Downtown Markham) for an Earth Day celebration.

The free event is for all ages and will provide you with fun and educational perspectives on environmental initiatives. There will be an exciting array of attractions including free electric vehicle (EV) test drives, a sustainability fair, live animals, children’s storytime, prize giveaways and more.

For more free live and virtual events including community tree planting, you can visit markham.ca/EarthMonth.

Meanwhile, the City of Markham, in partnership with RYOBI and Home Depot Canada, are working together to Clear the Air.

Until May 21, you can bring your old gas-powered or electric lawn mower to any of Markham’s four recycling depots for recycling.

In exchange, you will receive an instant rebate for $50 off the purchase of a select RYOBI lawn mower, to be redeemed at any of the three Home Depot locations in Markham. As an added bonus, eligible purchases will receive a RYOBI outdoor tool for free (valued up to $300, battery not included). Please remember to empty the gas tank prior to recycling.
