International Women’s Day has grown into a global day of recognition, acknowledgment and celebration of women that reflects upon their achievements and struggles.
To commemorate this occasion and honour the contributions of women past, present and future, Vaughan will host its annual International Women’s Day event in person on Wednesday, March 8.
“The City of Vaughan is blessed to have tremendous women leaders who pave the way for progress and inspire future generations to reach their full potential,” Mayor Steven Del Duca said. “I pay tribute to my wife, Utilia, and my daughters, Talia and Grace, and thank them for everything they do and for making my world better every single day. To all women, please know that everything you continue to do is deeply appreciated.”
Networking begins at 9 a.m. Official remarks will begin at 10 a.m.
This year will mark the 10-year anniversary of the city holding an annual International Women’s Day event.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.” The event will feature a keynote address by Eugenia Addy, CEO of Visions of Science Network for Learning, remarks from Del Duca and a performance from singer Ida-Maria Carriero.
This event is at Vaughan City Hall in the atrium at 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr. W.
The event is expected to run until noon.
Vaughan is also encouraging female-owned non-profit businesses and organizations to get involved. Owners are invited to set up a free display or booth during the event to showcase and sell their products. If you are interested in learning more or signing up to take part, you can vaughan.ca/culture.
