Markham is going to hold the largest ever pickleball tournament. The annual Markham Cup will present the first of the Canadian Pickleball Series for 2023 from March 3 to 5. Tournament organizers estimate more than 250 players and 200 guests will be on site in Markham over the weekend.

When: Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5

Where: Premier Racquet Club Markham, 73 Wootten Way N., Markham

The Pickleball Canada-sanctioned event will feature men, women and mixed doubles categories for various age groups between 19 to over 55. Matches are scheduled to start on Friday, with finals for men, women and mixed doubles taking place on Sunday.

The weekend tournament will take place at the newly opened Premier Racquet Club (PRC) Markham, containing round robin games played on a brand-new hard surface in an indoor heated bubble.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Ontario. It is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played on a badminton-sized court with a whiffle ball, about the size of a tennis ball, and a solid smooth-surfaced, short-handled paddle larger than a ping-pong paddle.
