City of Vaughan holds community focus groups to combat anti-Black racism

The initiative is to help inform a multi-year action plan to address and work to eliminate anti-Black racism in the city

The City of Vaughan is holding a number of community focus groups to address anti-Black racism this March.

These meetings will help the City of Vaughan in addressing systemic issues and help improve Vaughan’s programs, policies, procedures and services. All meetings will be held virtually between March 13 and March 30 in the evening on Zoom.

Throughout March, these focus groups will focus on different segments of the Black population in Vaughan to gain various perspectives.

If you identify as Black and want to submit your input, you can at the following meetings:

• Monday, March 13 at 6 p.m.: General session -- perspectives of the Black community

• Tuesday, March 14 at 6 p.m.: Black immigrants

• Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m.: Black seniors

• Monday, March 27 at 6 p.m.: Black youth (ages 16 to 24)

• Tuesday, March 28 at 6 p.m.: Black members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community

• Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m.: General session -- perspectives of the Black community

• Thursday, March 30 at 7 p.m.: Black business owners

 

This project is part of the city’s Addressing Anti-Black Racism Community Engagement and Action Plan project.
