Mount Albert Road in Sharon closed until April 1 due to unstable soil conditions

The road will be closed between Leslie Street and Charles Street from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day

Commuters in Sharon are going to have find some alternate routes this week.

York Region announced that Mount Albert Road will be closed between Leslie Street and Charles Street from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. between March 28 and April 1.

Nelson Costa, manager, corridor control and safety for York Region, said the road closure is necessary for the safety of workers and the public while crews address unstable soil conditions uncovered during work by a third-party contractor to install a sanitary sewer on behalf of the Town of East Gwillimbury. Detour signs are in place. Access will be maintained for emergency services, local homes and businesses.

East Gwillimbury spokesperson Laura Hanna said the work is part of putting servicing in place for the new Loblaws Distribution Centre being built on Woodbine Avenue.
