With the help of federal grants, Georgina is revamping an underused parkette to create a public, community space for performances.
JUST THE FACTS
Location: Uptown Keswick Parkette, 2 The Queensway South, at the corner of The Queensway South and Church Street;
The town is revitalizing an underused parkette, formerly known as Cenotaph Park in Uptown Keswick, into an inclusive, public space for the community.
The new parkette will feature: a new multi-purpose shelter with power outlets to support community events and performances; accessible seating and bike racks; a concrete plaza and gathering space; and Indigenous public art installation; and new landscaping throughout.
The multi-purpose shelter was installed in January. And construction on the rest of the parkette will start later in the spring and is expected to be complete by the summer.
The town received just under $300,000 through two federal grants, the Healthy Communities and Community Revitalization Fund, to fund the project.
