A large sinkhole due to a watermain break has forced the closure of part of Islington Avenue in Vaughan.
On Saturday, March 18 around 6:40 p.m., York Regional Police alerted the public that there was a large sinkhole in southbound lanes on Islington Avenue.
Police said the road was closed in both directions from Woodbridge Avenue to Highway 7 and advised motorists to avoid the area.
According to York Region, road closure was due to a watermain break.
At 9:50 p.m., police announced that northbound lanes of Islington Avenue had been reopened.
York Region updated the public in a tweet at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday that one southbound lane on Islington Avenue from Woodbridge Avenue to Highway 7 had reopened. The southbound curb lane remains closed for repairs.
