The power has been restored for most residents in Vaughan after a downed wire caused an outage early Tuesday morning.

The outage impacted more than 2,500 homes and businesses in the area roughly bounded by Highway 27 east to Pine Valley Drive, and Langstaff Road south to Steeles Avenue.

It was first reported as people were waking up Tuesday. The power was restored around 9:30 a.m, according to York Regional Police.

Alectra did not confirmed the cause, but police say a downed wire forced a closure of Islington Avenue from Steeles to Highway 7.

The road has since reopened.
