The skyline on the southern edge of Richmond Hill is expected to get a major shakeup as the city plans to transform it into its new downtown featuring a mix of high-density communities, commercial uses and employment.

Dubbed “Richmond Hill Centre,” the future downtown is located in the area surrounding the intersection of Yonge Street and Highway 7, which has been identified as a major intensification area to accommodate a large portion of incoming new residents over the next 10 to 20 years.

The public is invited to attend a virtual information session to learn more about what the city has planned for the future of Richmond Hill Centre and provide their input.

The session will take place on Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Online registration is required at RichmondHill.ca/RHCentre.

At the virtual session, the public can learn about the latest on the city’s ongoing draft secondary plan for Richmond Hill Centre.

Staff will also address the potential impact of recent provincial legislation on the plan.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about the secondary plan in the future downtown.

Located at the geographic centre of the Greater Golden Horseshoe and connected by a radiating network of transit service, including the Yonge North Subway Extension, GO Transit, VIVA BRT, York Region Transit and the future 407 Transitway, Richmond Hill Centre is expected to be a magnet for business, arts and culture, a leader in innovation and a key regional destination.

It will be a transit-oriented urban community defined by its diversity of architecture and building types, its vibrant urban spaces and fine-grained, walkable neighbourhoods.
