Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for York Region, including Vaughan, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, and Georgina. The storm is expected to start late Wednesday (Feb. 22) into Thursday (Feb. 23).
"A Colorado low is expected to bring a wintry mix of snow and ice pellets to much of southern Ontario," the warning says. "Precipitation may fall heavily at times leading to hazardous winter travel conditions."
A risk of freezing rain is also possible, depending on the area. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility, according to the new warning.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery."
Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
