It’s hard to miss the bustling construction activities on the once-vacant lands just across Major Mackenzie Drive East from the Liuna 506 Training Centre in Richmond Hill.

From single detached homes to townhouses, a mixture of residential developments are expected to take place on a large parcel of land south of Major Mackenzie Drive East between Leslie Street and Highway 404.

Where: 1577-1621 Major Mackenzie Dr. E

Who: Montagna Capital (BT) Inc.

What: A draft plan of subdivision application proposing 114 single detached lots has been approved. A site-plan application proposing 292 townhouse dwelling units on a private lane is under review. A site-plan application proposing 150 townhouse dwelling units on a private lane is under review.

What else: The heritage-designated David Hislop House on the site has been demolished following a minister's zoning order (MZO) issued by the Ontario government to expedite the development.

Background: The subject lands were previously owned by Rice Group. Under the MZO, a maximum height of 40 storeys are allowed on the lands. No highrise application has been submitted at this time.
