Collaboration between the building and development industry and conservation authorities will be crucial as the province ushers in new rules to increase housing supply over the next decade, according to the chair of the Building Industry and Land Development Association.

“New home construction can co-exist with environmental protection,” said Jason Sheldon, executive vice-president of land at Remington Group and chair of BILD, at the 72nd annual general meeting of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.

Sheldon confirmed the association’s confidence in the expertise and leadership of authority staff to help realize sustainable communities into the future, according to a LSRCA news release.

“It’s critical that our organization keeps the lines of communication with the industry open," agreed LSRCA CAO Rob Baldwin. "It’s through collaboration and consultation that we’ll be more likely to help this government achieve its housing targets. Working together, we can ensure that the environmental health of all our communities is kept top of mind.”

Baldwin highlighted staff achievements throughout 2022, sharing a year-in-review video compilation. To view the 2022 year-in-review video, the metrics and infographic, visit www.lsrca.on.ca/annual-report.

Wayne Emmerson, chair and CEO of the Regional Municipality of York, and chair of the conservation authority’s board of directors, highlighted the authority’s accomplishments over the past four years, as he acknowledged and thanked outgoing board members for their contributions and service.

As part of the 2023 opening business, new board members were welcomed and an election for the chair and vice-chair positions took place. Emmerson and Bradford Councillor Peter Ferragine were re-elected to their respective posts.
