The City of Markham is making big moves in Markham’s downtown. The Markham Centre is urbanizing quickly, anchored by great commercial, employment, transit and education uses.
Residents are invited to learn about the Markham Centre Secondary Plan Study and share feedback at a public open house.
When: Feb. 2, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Council Chambers and Great Hall at 101 Town Centre Blvd., Markham
How to participate: Register for the event on eventbrite or join the conversation online atyourvoicemarkham.ca.
In the summer of 2020, nearly 200 people participated in a series of virtual interactive discussions to share thoughts on the future of Markham Centre. The discussions led to a vision and guiding principles in September to help inform Markham Centre’s development over the next 20 to 30 years.

While working on the Markham Centre Secondary Plan update, the city also launched two new projects: the Smart City Strategy and the Community Energy Plan.
The Smart City Strategy is used to support the vision and guiding principles in the Markham Centre planning process. The strategy will identify information technology opportunities to support Markham Centre infrastructure development and place-making proposals and define the road map for implementation of those smart technologies and initial opportunities. Visit Smart City Strategies to learn more.
The Markham Centre Community Energy Plan will support the emerging downtown’s goal to become a net-zero emissions community by 2050. The aim is to meet the energy demand through low-carbon or carbon-free forms of energy and to offset any release of carbon emissions that cannot be eliminated. Learn more about Community Energy Plan.
