York region is under a Special Weather Statement, according to Environment Canada.
The national weather agency issued the statement Sunday (Jan. 22), warning that "significant snowfall" is possible Wednesday night into Thursday (Jan. 25-26).
The statement is for Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Georgina and northern York region.
Total snowfall accumulations of 10-15 centimetres are likely, but could be as high as 20 centimetres, Environment Canada said in its statement.
There will be "reduced visibility in heavy snow," and "rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult," Environment Canada said in pointing out the multiple hazards for York residents that are associated with the pending storm.
"A Texas low is bringing snow to southern Ontario late Wednesday into Thursday. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are possible, with locally higher amounts of up to 20 cm," the statement reads.
