Plans are in the works to create a memorial for five people who were shot and killed in a Vaughan condo building.
Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca issued a statement saying Vaughan council will on Tuesday look at creating a memorial to honour of 57-year-old Rita Camilleri, 79-year-old Vittorio Panza, 75-year-old Russell Manock, 71-year-old Helen “Lorraine” Manock and 59-year-old Naveed Dada.
The killings took place on Dec. 18, 2022 at a condo building located on Jane St., just north of Rutherford Rd. A 73-year-old gunman murdered three condo board members and two of their spouses before police shot and killed him.
“Like so many Vaughan residents, I was shaken by the unspeakable tragedy in our community last December, which claimed the lives of five people and left another in serious condition,” Del Duca said in a statement.
“Flags at City of Vaughan facilities were lowered to half-mast in honour of the victims, and in the days following the shooting, we held a candlelight vigil at City Hall.”
