The City of Vaughan has acquired The Sports Village, a premier sports and recreation facility, from Mentana Group Inc.

Located at 2600 Rutherford Rd. in Concord, The Sports Village includes four NHL-sized ice rinks, five new outdoor beach volleyball courts, and a 30,000-square-foot outdoor sports park.

“I am pleased to begin the 2022-26 term of council by welcoming The Sports Village as the City of Vaughan’s newest sports and recreational facility. It is where sports enthusiasts and citizens of all ages can come together to engage, interact and be active,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca in a press release.

“With four NHL-sized arenas and an improved skating rink planned for the near future, The Sports Village will play a key role in ensuring our community has access to exceptional sports amenities for generations to come,” he added.

The Sports Village has been a cornerstone for athletics in Vaughan for years.

“The Sports Village has been home for aspiring young and adult athletes in Vaughan since the first drop of the puck 23 hockey seasons ago. This unique arena is Vaughan’s favourite place to play,” said Mentana Group owner Tony Furiato.

“I am grateful that Mentana Group and the City of Vaughan partnered to build such an impacting sport legacy. The Sports Village is entering a new phase and I am delighted that the City of Vaughan is committed to build on the success of the past,” he said.
