Georgina is winter ready, and residents can now see when their streets are plowed.
Any one of Georgina’s 14 snowplows could be clearing snow on a street near you.
Truck Norris, Betty Whiteout or Fast and Flurryous are the new names of three snowplows charged with clearing snow from more than 330 kilometres of roads, 140 kilometres of sidewalks and 25 municipal parking lots.
Other snowplow names include: Ctrl Salt Delete, Clearopathra, Austin Plower, Scoop Dogg, The Big Leplowski, Darth Blader, Melton John, Blizzard of Oz, Gordie Plow and Snowbegone Kenobi.
And the personal favourite: Plowy McPlowface.
Residents can now track snow plows on the town's website, seeing when and where snowplows are on Georgina streets. The online, colour-coded map is updated every five minutes on a 15-minute delay.
Primary roads, such as those with high volumes of traffic, fire stations and emergency vehicle and transit routes, are plowed first, followed by secondary roads.
Residents can expect streets to be cleared between 12 and 24 hours and sidewalks to be cleared 24 hours after a significant snowfall.
York Region is responsible for clearing regional roads such as Woodbine Avenue and McCowan, Metro, Dalton, Ravenshoe, Baseline and Pefferlaw roads.
The Ministry of Transportation is responsible for winter maintenance on Highway 48.
New this year is the town's windrow removal program for eligible residents 65 years or older or those who require assistance.
The town is continuing with its mix of treated salt and sand to prime the roads before a snowfall.
