The community of Vaughan gathered Wednesday evening to mourn the loss of five people who were shot and killed at a condo on Sunday.

Five people were shot and killed in a Vaughan condo on Sunday night and a sixth victim is recovering in the hospital.

A couple of hundred community members came out for the vigil including some of the victims’ family members. Vaughan’s mayor Steven Del Duca spoke to them directly, “we know that you are hurting so very badly, we know that you are in a state of shock, overcome with a tremendous and perhaps at some times debilitating sense of loss. Please know that our community is standing with you.”

First responders and the police chief were also at the vigil. A moment of silence was held for the five people who lost their lives. Rita Camilleri, 57, Vittorio Panza, 79, Russell Manock, 75, Helen Manock, 71, and Naveed Dada, 59.

York regional police continue to investigate the motive of the 73-year-old gunman.
