Vaughan singer Ruthie Larbi has put out a new single titled “Giver of Grace,” a throwback to a bygone era with a doo-wop sound. While Larbi makes Christian music, her lilting vocals help give the song a broader pop appeal.

The song’s central theme is one of acquiescence to God. As many welcome the holiday season with prayer, the song comes at a time of reflection and celebration.

It’s wholesome music for a wholesome time. The song will be appreciated by those who are spiritual and non-spiritual alike.

Larbi says her musical influences include Christian artists like Jonathan Ogden and The Belonging Co.

Like many people, the pandemic left her with more time and as an artist she looked inward to start making the music she wanted to make.

“I'm still working on the business side right now, but because of the pandemic, it really did give me a lot of time to reflect on what I want to do. So I've always wanted to work in the music industry,” said Larbi. “And thankfully, because of the pandemic, I ended up joining this online music program called the Kingdom Music Academy. And it's run by a guy who's actually from Ontario. He's from Hamilton, but he lives in Nashville right now.”

Larbi credits the Nashville Kingdom Music Academy for sharpening her songwriting skills.

“There are a lot of teachings and courses on, like, artistry and songwriting, and crowdfunding and social media, and kind of just all the things that an artist, especially a beginner artist, would love to know and to learn and to apply,” Larbi told the Vaughan Citizen.

One of those skills is crowdfunding, which she used to finance her first EP, Starting Here, which raised $5,701 exceeding her $5,000 goal.
