Activate your senses at Aurora Family Leisure Complex's sensory hallway

Crouch low, stretch high, side step, spin, and bear walk across the new sensory hallway upstairs near the Loft entrance of the Aurora Family Leisure Complex located at 135 Industrial Pkwy. N.

You can pick a colour from a collection of rainbow circles, play hopscotch, try to keep your balance, or count your way to the top of a flower.

The hallway, which is the second installed by the Town of Aurora and announced earlier this month, is designed for people of all ages and developmental stages to take a break from their everyday routines and have fun with physical movement through bright colours, letters, numbers, and easy-to-follow descriptions.

Sensory-friendly environments provide a calm space to help redirect an individual’s overwhelming emotions or behaviours. The space helps to build connections through sight, sound, and touch and the hallway includes taller components that can be used by adults or seniors.

The town installed its first sensory hallway in 2019. It can be found at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex at 1400 Wellington St. E. Parents attending either community centre for classes are asked to supervise their children as they use the sensory hallways to run, jump, play, and relax.
