The Ballantrae Fire Station is on the move after the Town of Stouffville announced an agreement to purchase 3.5 acres on Aurora Road.

The station will be located just west of Highway 48 in Ballantrae. The town is in ongoing discussions with York Region Emergency Medical Services about a joint venture for the site. The transaction is scheduled to close in early 2023.

The purchase of the Aurora Road property is a proposed joint venture between the Town of Stouffville and York Region. The total purchase price is $4.168 million.

The relocation of Fire Station 5-2, presently at 15400 Hwy. 48, will address the challenges outlined in a recent master fire plan submitted to council.

“This is terrific news for all residents of Stouffville,” Mayor Iain Lovatt said. “Ballantrae/Musselman’s Lake is an identified growth area for the town, which has required council to take steps to replace and modernize the aging facility. The proposed location on Aurora Road meets the requirements for both fire and EMS, which will improve service and response times.”

In 2019, a facility review of the current Fire Station 5-2 was conducted by Thomas Brown Architects. In April 2022, Emergency Management & Training Inc. prepared the 2022 Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire Master Plan, which was adopted by council in June.

Among the recommendations listed in the 2022 study, was the construction of a replacement fire station in a location near the existing facility that could better serve residents throughout the town.

“Due to the age of the existing facility and the required major upgrades, it was determined that investing in a new fire station will provide a much better value for taxpayer dollars,” fire Chief Bill Snowball said. “Plus, it can be designed and built specifically to serve the needs of our growing town.”
