Georgina residents, business owners: have your say on how town spends your tax dollars

Nov. 7, 2022

Each year, the town passes a multimillion dollar budget to determine how funds are distributed throughout the community.

Tax dollars are used to support a variety of townwide services, such as snow clearing, waste collection, road work and recreation programs.

For every dollar collected through property taxes, just over half stays in town. The rest -- 48 cents -- is divided up between York Region and the Ministry of Education.

The 2023 property tax increase will be impacted by rising inflation and the increasing costs of infrastructure

Residents, here’s your chance to have a say on how your tax dollars are spent and to get involved in the budget process

Residents and business owners are invited to participate in an online budget survey asking what priorities council should consider.

Those who complete the survey will be entered to win one of two $100 gift cards.

Hard copies of the budget survey are available at the Civic Centre, 26557 Civic Centre Rd., as well as all three branches of Georgina Public Library.

You can also provide feedback via email at budget@georgina.ca.

The survey closes Nov. 11. Results will be included as part of the draft budget presented to council Nov. 30.

Council will deliberate the budget Jan. 24 and 25.
