Six Markham ire station bay doors will be wrapped with artwork designed by a Unionville High School student, which focuses on extinguishing bad habits and cooking safely in the kitchen.
“One of the leading causes of fires in Markham is ... human behaviour and error,” said Markham Fire and Emergency Services Chief Adam Grant. “It is our goal to raise awareness and educate the community on fire safety tips and best practices that can help individuals do their part when it comes to being fire-safe, which ultimately helps better protect our neighbourhoods.”
The fire station bay doors artwork initiative is funded by a grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, totalling $19,546. This is the third year that Markham Fire and Emergency Services has received a grant from the foundation. A cheque presentation took place at Station 98 on Oct. 31.
“Markham Fire and Emergency Services is a leader in fire safety and fire prevention efforts,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This grant enables them to amplify their fire safety messaging by providing highly visible safety graphics on six of their station doors.”
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 306 grants to public safety organizations since 2015. This grant is one of 22 awarded to public safety organizations during the most recent grant cycle.
