From the village core to Oak ridges: Richmond Hill residents invited to speak up on the city’s future development

More than 41,000 residents have spoken and elected Richmond Hill’s decision-makers for the next four years when significant growth is expected to continue in the city.

The city now wants to hear what the public wants and needs in the future development of Richmond Hill as part of its official plan update project, as known as City Plan.

Residents and businesses are invited to attend a series of workshops and complete an online survey to provide their feedback on the plans for four growth areas identified in the official plan: the village core, Newkirk and Oak Ridges Local Centres, and the Yonge and 16th Avenue Key Development Area.

These growth areas are well-served by transit, with the potential for redevelopment and creating complete communities.

The online survey is available at RichmondHill.ca/OPUpdate until Nov. 30, 2022. The city would like the public’s input to guide planning within employment areas such as businesses and parks and intensification areas, including the four growth areas.

At the two-hour virtual workshops scheduled for November, participants will hear from city staff about the key directions for the area and share their insights and personal experiences about the area while engaging in interactive discussions about how the area can be further developed to address the community’s current and future needs.

The first workshop is taking place on Nov. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. about Yonge and 16 key development area -- the area along Yonge Street and 16th Avenue/Carrville Road.

On Nov. 17, the second workshop will be available from 7 to 9 p.m. about the village's local centre -- the area along Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive.

The third workshop is scheduled for Nov. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. about the Newkirk local centre -- the area along Major Mackenzie Drive and Newkirk Road.

It has recently been promoted from a local development area to a local centre.

The last one will take place on Nov. 24 between 7 and 9 p.m. about the Oak Ridges local centre -- the area along Yonge Street from King Road to Bloomington Road.

The village, Newkirk and Oak Ridge areas are among the six local centres that have been designated by the city for intensification, according to City Plan 2041.
