Vaughan mayoral candidate Stephen Del Duca announces election platform

Stephen Del Duca has a major endorsement in his campaign to become Mayor of Vaughan.

Current Vaughan mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, who is not seeking re-election, is throwing his support to Del Duca, who previously represented the region as MPP.

Vaughan has transformed in his last 12 years as mayor with a new hospital, college, downtown core, 900-acre park and 70,000 jobs, Bevilacqua said.

“Stephen, given his experience and willingness to serve, will be able to continue down the same path. I think that is how we build the potential of our city.

Former Ontario Liberal Party leader and Transport Minister Del Duca will deliver his speech on Thursday for the Oct. 24 elections. This follows what he and Bevilaqua have achieved together for Vaughan, he said.

Candidates will find ways to keep property taxes low and provide financial relief to vulnerable residents, support Vaughan Advantage’s efforts to attract businesses and jobs to the city, and build green spaces and trail systems. “I have been with this community for over 30 years, but 12 years ago, before Maurizio came on the scene as mayor, it had a bit of a rough road as a community. Over the past 12 years, we’ve seen it turn around,” Del Duca said. “I think what people in this community are looking for is continued stability and continued thoughtfulness when it comes to leadership in City Hall.”

Long-time Vaughan City Councilors Sandra Jan Racco, Parveen Bora, Danny DeSantis, Paul D’Onofrio, Robert Glasarian and Lino Mancinella are also running for mayor of Vaughan.
