The City of Vaughan is commemorating the lives of Canadians who served our country this year with a live event on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m.
The ceremony will be able to be viewed live at Vaughan.ca/live and will feature a virtual exhibit dubbed "The Battle from Above," telling the stories of pilots from Vaughan who fought during wartime and were members of the Canadian Air Force. The Canadian Air Force was later renamed the Royal Canadian Air Force.
The virtual exhibit will be a chance to look at rare documents, artifacts, and photographs preserved by the city.
Following the Remembrance Day event on Tuesday Nov. 1, residents are invited to share their thoughts of remembrance and messages of peace on Vaughan’s virtual Poppy Wall. Residents can tell stories, thank, and honour the individuals who risked or lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars.
The city’s annual Remembrance event reflects the city’s commitment to fostering active, safe and diverse communities that are inclusive, enhance community well-being and promote respect for the City’s heritage, arts and culture, as outlined in the 2018-2022 Term of Council Service Excellence Strategic Plan.
