NAME: Carrie Liddy
OCCUPATION: Small business owner
ADDRESS/WARD: Ward 2 resident
POSITION YOU ARE RUNNING FOR: Vaughan Local and Regional Councillor
PREVIOUS POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Candidate in 2014 for Ward 2 Councillor
WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN?
Vaughan must do better. I’m running to address affordability, liveability and accountability in Vaughan municipal government.
HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND CHAMPION DIVERSITY?
Vaughan is a diverse city. However, there is a serious problem with antisemitism that needs to be addressed now. All people in Vaughan should feel safe in their own communities. It is not acceptable for people to be scared to attend their faith services. No one should not be subjected to threats and bullying for any reason.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE ISSUES?
We need accountability, affordability, and liveability. Affordability: by reducing development charges and eliminating the water and hospital surtax. Liveability: by addressing gridlock and traffic concerns. We need to move cars around Vaughan not through Vaughan. And accountability: by ceasing closed sessions and increasing taxpayer input into decision-making.
IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FIRST 100 DAYS?
a) Form a team of experts to address antisemitism, increasing crime and bullying with an action plan within 60 days.
b) Complete investigations into 1) the $11M given back to a developer for a parking garage instead of green space 2) the $10M given back to the government which was to pay for hospital infrastructure 3) the water surtax 4) the hundreds of millions of tax dollars used to buy an electrical company.
c) Develop a plan to move cars around Vaughan, not through Vaughan.
