Newmarket’s first outdoor skatepark opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Magna Centre (800 Mulock Dr.) on Aug. 30.

The outdoor skatepark includes a variety of skate features to accommodate junior to advanced riders and provide learning opportunities to all users and age groups.

The project has been in the works for more than two years. Public consultation for the outdoor skatepark began in 2020. Over 400 participants provided their feedback on what they wanted to see.

Community worked together in shaping the unique facility that will provide more much-needed recreational opportunities for youth to exercise, be outdoors and have fun. The outdoor skatepark complements the very popular indoor skatepark at the Newmarket Youth Centre.

“We want to see healthy, active, and happy families and healthy, active and happy kids. I think this is another step forward. Let's have less screen time and more skate time, and this is an opportunity to do that,” Mayor John Taylor said at the opening.
