Newmarket and Aurora residents can check out their new joint fire station and learn fire prevention tips at an open house Sept. 24.
The new fire hall, at 300 Earl Steward Dr., in Aurora just south of Newmarket, is the first time in Central York Fire Services’ (CYFS) history that Newmarket and Aurora have built a joint station.
“I think it’s an amazing deal for Aurora and Newmarket,” Chief Ian Laing said two years ago before construction began.
“It’s going to, I think, make a very positive impact on the level of service we can provide to both communities. It’s a big step forward for us.”
The open house will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature: morning coffee and doughnuts, hot dogs, the Tim Horton Express Train, arts and crafts, fire safety wheel, vehicle rescue, fire trucks, prizes, games, Sparky the Fire Dog, a fire extinguisher demonstration, fire safety information and more.
The event will be held during Fire Prevention Week. For more information, visit the CYFS website.
