Brian Capitao
NAME: Jennifer Wigston
OCCUPATION: York Catholic District School Board Trustee, Vaughan Wards 4 & 5
ADDRESS/WARD: I have lived in Vaughan with my family for the last 16 years.
POSITION YOU ARE RUNNING FOR: YCDSB Trustee, Vaughan Wards 3, 4 & 5
PREVIOUS POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Elected YCDSB Trustee in 2018
WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN?
Parents need to feel heard and know that their concerns will be addressed. Over the last four years, I have been available and responsive to the families served by the YCDSB. I am dedicated to helping students and their families throughout their educational journey.
HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND CHAMPION DIVERSITY?
As a Catholic school trustee, policy is an important part of our school board governance. I am committed to the continuous review and revision of Board policies to ensure that they reflect equity and inclusion.
As an individual, the most important thing that I can do is listen and learn. In the formal sense, this means actively participating in ongoing training and workshops. Informally this means engaging with families to identify systemic barriers to student success.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE ISSUES?
Supporting the mental health of our school communities
Continue to be a strong advocate for children with exceptionalities
Strengthening the relationships between home, school and church
IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FIRST 100 DAYS?
In the first 100 days I will visit all the YCDSB elementary and secondary schools I represent to listen to and learn about the concerns of students, parents and staff in each school community.
