Commuters who use Cooksville GO station in Mississauga, the Pickering GO Station and three other train stations across the transit network now have a new place to securely park their bicycles.

In total, 140 new bike spots are available at Cooksville, Pickering, Centennial (Markham), East Gwillimbury and Rutherford (Vaughan) GO train stations.

The new bike rooms allow users to reserve spots ahead of time so they can easily ride to and from the GO station without worrying where to leave their bikes so they’ll be secure.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency that operates GO, says plans are in the works to open similar facilities at more stations across the network later this year.

“These reserved bike rooms will make it much more convenient for customers to get to and from their nearest GO station,” Metrolinx officials said in a news release today (Sept. 1). “The initiative is part of Metrolinx’s goal to increase station access for customers with a variety of travel preferences. So, those who live too far to walk and don’t want to drive now have another option.”
