Anand running for Vaughan's Ward 2 council seat in 2022 municipal election

Name: Meera Anand

Occupation: Housewife and volunteer

Address/Ward: 123 Colle Melito Way, Woodbridge

Position you are running for: Councillor (Ward 2)

Previous political experience: Have been assisting and volunteering for candidates in Vaughan and campaigning in Municipal,Federal and Provincial Elections for 20 years.

WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN?

I have lived in Vaughan for 20 years, and would like to promote this area as a pollution-free,greening Vaughan area, with larger pavements, bike lanes, safer roads ,a healthier society, efficient ,speedy healthcare,a society of multi-cultural people celebrating cultures of the world right here in Vaughan.

HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND CHAMPION DIVERSITY?

As I already have,I hope to keep attending and promoting festivals of different cultures in Vaughan .Also getting different cultures to participate in walks and fundraisings for cures of different diseases, since this is a common cause and disease knows no caste, creed or religion and these are causes we can all fight for as one people.

TOP THREE ISSUES:

1. To make our existing healthcare system an efficient and speedy one, where wait times are less, staff is knowledgeable, and the patient doesn’t get lost in the system by becoming just another number, where the patients can take their healthcare in their own hands, and along with their caregivers, have options in choices of healthcare.A healthcare system that focuses on cures and mobility ,through exercise and physio, the aim being not just to cure conditions but to get the patient back on their feet.

2. My vision is to see a healthier, fitter society, of people of all ages participating in walks and volunteering in city events and where even senior clubs promote physical activities as well as fun activities. Also to have more bicycle marathons and fundraisings that bring people of all ages, not just students and young people, together.

3. I would like to see a neighbourhood of safe roads, citizens following rules and road regulations, and people reporting dangerous and unsafe drivers.I would want this green area of Vaughan to remain pollution-free and see zero emissions to maintain clean air quality.I have been doing so by reporting unsafe drivers to YRP as well as reporting polluting vehicles to Ministry of Transport as well as the Drive-Clean program. I would also like to see polluters fined so that we can have a clean environment, Again to remind citizens to report polluting vehicles to the Transport ministry so that those vehicles can be taken off the roads unless they get their polluting emissions fixed. The clean and green environment is a gift of nature and we have no right to destroy it.
