York Region beginning work on Newmarket's sewage forcemain

Construction on sewer system along Bayview Parkway and Prospect Street to run until spring, some trail access to be restricted temporarily

Newmarket residents can expect sewage work through the middle of town as York Region inspects and rehabilitates a forcemain.

York Region announced it would be working on the York Durham Sewage System starting this month, running until spring. The work will create construction-related traffic. The forcemain runs from Bayview Parkway south along Prospect Street and through the Newmarket municipal office.

“Due to the nature of the work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks, though every effort to minimize this will be made,” the region said. “Access to all homes and buildings will be maintained, and there is no impact to your water or wastewater services.”

The region twinned the town’s forcemain last year, which now allows for the region to do work on the town’s original forcemain built in 1980. The region said the work will “extend the life of the forcemain and increase the reliability of the sewage system.”

The work will be limited to areas along the forcemain. The region said access to the Koiidda and Tom Taylor trails, and paths to the Wesley Brooks Conservation Area, may be temporarily restricted during the work.

“When the work is complete, the roads and public trails will be fully restored,” the region said. “Thank you for your patience while we complete this vital work.”
