Vaughan Public Libraries in partnership with York Region has opened a Lendery at the Pierre Berton Resource Library.
The grand opening will be on Sept. 8 with Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, council members and library board members in attendance.
The Lendery was developed in partnership with York Region and is part of York Region’s Waste Management Master Plan or SM4RT Living Plan.
The goal is to create a circular economy with the purpose refurbishing and recycling tools, kitchen equipment, sporting gear and more.
“Libraries are where you can access a wealth of resources and return them so fellow customers can enjoy them. The Lendery is a natural fit with this ethos, and we believe that it will help reduce waste in the city -- we would rather have these items flying off our shelves than collecting dust on yours,” said Margie Singleton, CEO of Vaughan Public Libraries in a press release.
In order to borrow items from the Lendery, customers must fit the following criteria:
Be 18 years of age or older
Have a valid VPL card
Complete a Lendery borrowing agreement with staff
Lendery items are available on a first-come, first-served basis without holds and can be borrowed for 14 days.
To see what items you can borrow from the Lendery, you can view an online catalogue at vaughanpl.bibliocoomons.com/lendery.
