Brian Capitao

Name: John Santoro

Occupation: Semi Retired

Address/Ward: 1401-9235 Jane Street, Vaughan, Ont., L6A 0J8

Position you are running for: Local and Regional Councillor

Previous political experience: New to politics but worked for the Ministry of Labour in collaboration with the Ministers Office for 6 years.

Why have you decided to run?

I want residents to come first, have a plan in place to deal with future economic hardships, and to ensure that with the addition of thousands of condominiums, future development in Vaughan is done in a manner that would make it a modern, affordable, and progressive city, which could eliminate gridlock.

How will you embrace and champion diversity?

I would attempt to have diversity included in the academic curriculum. Also, I would ensure that any correspondence on the subject would never use the words "tolerate or tolerance." Nothing less than acceptance would be adequate.

What are your top three issues?

Affordable housing: does not exist in Vaughan, thanks to the lack of importance placed on it by the previous administration.

Adequate transportation: is required both for growth and to improve the lives of Vaughan residents.

Bringing business to Vaughan: gives people work, gives people back time and is environmentally friendly.

If elected, what do you plan to accomplish in your first 100 days?

I would meet with counterparts from different cities, review expenditures approved by the previous administration, reassess the necessity of expenditures at a time when there could be a downturn in the economy, incorporate/develop action plans for potential economic hardships that residents may face due to a shrinking economy.
