PREVIOUS POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Elected York Region District School Board trustee, 2000. Elected councillor, City of Vaughan, Ward 5 -- Thornhill, 2004 -- present

WHY HAVE YOU DECIDED TO RUN?

My experience as an action-oriented councillor has provided me with the tools to continue to address the issues important to residents including fiscal responsibility. As well, there are several important projects that need to be guided by a knowledgeable councillor, including the Yonge/Steeles and Promenade developments.

HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE AND CHAMPION DIVERSITY?

I will use my recent experience of vice chair of the city’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force to ensure that there is a strong voice on council to ensure that our recommendations are implemented. Furthermore, I will use my long professional experience -- over 30 years as a human rights official, consultant and activist to further diversity in the city.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE ISSUES?

• Maintain low property taxes while providing the highest level of services.
• Ensure quality infrastructure -- parks, community centres, libraries, fire stations, roads -- in Ward 5 through constant renewal.
• Provide a strong and impactful voice for residents on development issues.

 

IF ELECTED, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR FIRST 100 DAYS?

• Approve budget with a minimal tax increase and include funding for Ward 5 -- Thornhill renewal projects.
• Reopen the completely renewed Garnet Williams Community Centre.
• Provide efficient, effective friendly services to residents.
• Approve an affordable housing policy for Vaughan.
