Carella running for Vaughan's Ward 2 council seat in 2022 municipal election
Name: Tony Carella

Occupation: Municipal Councillor (incumbent)

Address/Ward: 53 Woodbridge Ave., Woodbridge/Ward 2

Position you are running for: Councillor, Ward 2/Woodbridge West

Previous political experience: I have served in the same office -- local councillor for Ward 2 -- for 22 years (1994 to ’97, and 2003 to 2022)

Why have you decided to run?

I love public service, and have been at it for over two decades, and thanks to the stellar support of my two assistants, we have earned a reputation for excellent service to my constituents.

How will you embrace and champion diversity?

As the chair of the city's Diversity and Inclusion Task Force over the past couple of years and working with 19 citizen-members drawn from a wide range of geographic backgrounds, ethnicities, etc., I am committed to implementing the recommendations of the task force, and the diversity, equity and inclusion plans and policies of the city.

What are your top three issues?

Completion of the Woodbridge Avenue Streetscape Project and the nearby four-kilometre-long Riverwalk

Ensuring robust community participation in decision-making about the 200 acres of added city parkland (former Board of Trade lands)

Completion of secondary off-leash dog park (Highway 7 and Islington Avenue), launch of primary dog park (Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 27)

If elected, what do you plan to accomplish in your first 100 days?

Because all groups of co-workers perform best when acting as a team, I want to devote time to establishing a good working relationship with members of the new council. It is clear we will have a new mayor and understanding his/her priorities and those of other members of council (particularly any new ones) is the key to a successful term for all of council.
