City of Guelph to start marking hazardous trees set for removal

he city is preparing to take down more trees potentially posing a safety risk.
In an Aug. 31 news release, the City of Guelph announced it would begin marking trees in the city’s parks and natural areas that have been deemed hazardous, along with those infested and killed by the emerald ash borer, starting in September.
Trees marked with an orange “X” will be taken down, starting in December, with work continuing through the winter and into the spring of 2023.
The city will be marking trees in the following areas:
During this time, the city notes it will also be removing buckthorn in those same areas via herbicide treatments. This approach, the city release notes, will “create the best opportunity for natural regeneration and/or replanting and restoration efforts.”
While work is underway, affected woodlands, trails, roads and sidewalks will close temporarily, limiting access to trails, parks and natural areas.
