VOTER GUIDE: Who's running for mayor, councillor, trustee in 2022 municipal election in Stouffville

People living in Stouffville will be heading to the polls this fall to decide who will represent them around the town council table, the Region of York and on the local school boards.

The 2022 municipal and school board election will take place Monday, Oct. 24.

We've put together a comprehensive list of who's running, information on Stouffville's new ward boundaries and what you need to know to vote.

WHO'S RUNNING?

The nomination period for candidates to register began May 2. The deadline was Aug. 20.

WHO CAN I VOTE FOR?

In the 2022 municipal and school board election, voters will have the opportunity to select the following:

Mayor -- elected at large by voters across the entire municipality.

Councillor -- elected in each of the six wards by voters within each.

Trustee -- one from the following: York Region District School Board (English public), York Catholic District School Board (English separate), Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French public) or Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French separate).

ARE THESE THE SAME POSITIONS AS LAST ELECTION?

No. The town redrew the wards of council and voting will be based on the new boundaries.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

You are eligible to vote in the 2022 Municipal and School Board Election if you meet the following criteria on Election Day:

 

WHERE CAN I VOTE?

Voters will be able to cast their ballot at any election polling location within the town regardless of which ward they reside in.

WHAT DO I NEED TO VOTE?

Voters will need to bring one piece of identification that shows your name and address to receive a ballot on Election Day.

Voter identification card cannot be used as a piece of ID. A separate piece of identification will be required.

Acceptable ID includes an Ontario driver's licence or health card, property tax assessment or utility bill.
